Glenn, thanks so much for helping out with the article. I was a camper at Shaw-Mi-Del-Eca from 1950-59, and I think I can help with the early history of the camp and ties to GMS. I am out of town but will send you a scan of the photo I have. Nat Harris gave it to me shortly before he passed. He had other photos that I think came from his mother (she was camp director for many years), and I will try to track them down.
Noteworthy of my time at camp was when they built the swimming pool and we stopped swimming above and below the dam, when Sunny Tarpley’s family sold the camp a motorboat and we learned to water ski, and an exceptional Indian lore program for a few years.
Dr. Bill Carter was the horseback riding instructor and may have been one of the longest serving camp counselors. He may have useful materials. Stuart Ann Hanna and her three brothers grew up at camp and she should have materials. I know she has several old catalogues.
I am very pleased to know about your webpages. There are many former campers and counselors in and around Greenbrier County that will be interested. I am sure Kim will want to include the links in your article.
More later,
